The Lessons Had Through Precision Machining
As a consumer, how often does one think of the machine one is using? By this it is meant how often does one really consider what the machine is actually doing at any given moment? Think of an automobile for a moment. The only time most people consider the physical functions of the engine, drive train, wheels, and so on, is when one is in the process of breaking down. So if one is not thinking about the car itself, it is a tribute to the art of Precision Machining.
Now take this idea and begin to expand it to the entire function of any given business. A smoothly running business operates like a smoothly running machine; it seems natural and effortless and needs little scrutiny. This is true for all businesses, and particular true of the types of business that make the machines that other businesses rely on.
The manufacture of high quality goods is of the essence of good, sound business practices. Since so many industries rely on the industries that create machinery, then it would stand to reason that those doing the creating should be models for all others to follow. Perhaps Precision Machining machinists are more than toolmakers; perhaps they are the very foundation of a capitalistic society.
The ability to create a part that will mesh with other parts so effectively that it becomes all but unnoticeable is the essence of precision machinery. Creating parts that are finely detailed, down to imperceptible levels of measurement, in order for the whole to function smoothly is indeed an art of the highest level. And this work is rarely seen by any others save for the craftsmen themselves.
Perhaps taking this type of approach to other elements of business is an idea worth considering. If each and every stage of business development could enmesh seamlessly with every other, then one would have an entity that seems to work of one accord. This approach is both organic and technical at the same time, and deserves some looking into.
Precision Machining is the very foundation of a properly operating piece of equipment. If the machinists with their tools can provide the very best for those they serve, then it goes to say that all others can approach their jobs in much the same fashion. Being a cog within a wheel is nothing to look askance at. That is, until the cog is improperly fitted to the task.
