The Benefits Of Laser Welding


Laser Welding is an innovative new way that engineers have created to make the technique of joining multiple pieces of metal more effective. Since the earliest blacksmiths, the system of welding has changed to adapt to the needs of a growing society. The original procedure began as forging and then slowly evolved to gas and electric through the Industrial Revolution. Soon afterwards the process evolved to arc and oxy-fuel methods that were used early in the twentieth century.

The latest technique is currently popular since it uses energy beams to make the process really effective. The energy beam is done within a vacuum that is highly focused at a very high density. The process is capable of making very deep penetrations while keeping the size of the weld area very small.

This particular process is very costly but worth the money since it is easily automated and can be done quickly. It is considered to be a highly productive process available since the process is very fast. The only drawback is that overtime the machinery is prone to thermal cracking. As an expensive equipment, it may be very hard to replace on a regular basis.

The two types of equipment that can be used for this process are gas and solid-state lasers. The gas unit uses a mixture of elemental gases as its medium while the solid-state unit uses a mixture of synthetic elements in aluminum oxide. In either laser, photos are emitted to form a beam when the medium created is excited.

Another form of Laser Welding used but is not as popular is the fiber laser. This particular equipment uses optical fiber but is exclusively limited to the use of robotic industrial welding. This is much safer when being dealt with a robot since it can be better controlled to deliver greater precision. The process can be very hazardous to humans if the right precautions are not taken. It is the main reason why robots have been used as the proper replacement.
